M4 crash near Bristol leaves two people in hospital

Two people have been taken to hospital after a three-vehicle crash on the M4 near Bristol this morning.

The crash, which happened between Junction 20 (the Almondsbury Interchange) and Junction 19 at around 8.30am, saw three eastbound lanes of the motorway closed.

South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust have now confirmed that they did attend and three people were injured.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “Call received 8.24am about a three-vehicle collision on the M4 eastbound near Junction 20.

“We sent a senior paramedic and land ambulance crew to attend.

“We treated three patients at the scene, discharged one of them and transported the other two to hospital.”

The severity of the injuries to the two individuals taken to hospital is not known at this stage.

The incident caused tailbacks stretching three miles, before the road was reopened by 10.30am.

Highways England confirmed that all lanes are now open again on the M4 eastbound between Junctions 20 and 19, following the crash.

It tweeted just before 10.30am: "Some residual delays in the area but all starting to flow well. Stay safe."
