M4 crash: Injured woman cut out of car that landed on its roof

A woman had to be cut from her car which had crashed off the M4 and overturned and landed on its roof today (Friday, July 2).

The incident brought the eastbound motorway to a standstill after the incident which happened at around 9.30am.

Emergency services say that they had to use cutting equipment to rescue a woman, who has been taken to hospital.

Three other people were injured in the car but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The incident happened on the M4 near Chippenham, Wiltshire.

A statement from Wiltshire Police said: "At 9.30am today (02/07) We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the M4 between Junction 18 and the Leigh Delamere services involving a single-vehicle.

"The vehicle left the carriageway and came to rest on its roof.

"Fire crews used cutting equipment to release a female casualty who has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Three other people who were in the car were injured but their condition is not life-changing or life-threatening."

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

A statement said: "Two crews from Chippenham along with two crews from Avon and Somerset appliances were mobilised to an RTC involving one vehicle on the M4 at 9:35am today.

"Crews used cutting equipment to release one female casualty from the vehicle who was then taken to hospital by ambulance."
