A 58-year-old man has died in a crash on the M25, police say.

The man died at the scene after his silver Volkswagen Transporter van crashed with a tanker at about 11.15pm on Sunday.

The road was closed in a clockwise direction for five hours after the collision between junctions five and six in Godstone.

Paramedics, police officers, Highways England staff and firefighters attended the scene.

The motorway has now fully reopened.

Surrey Police is appealing to any motorists who witnessed the collision, stopped at the scene to provide assistance, or who have any information which could assist enquiries, including dashcam footage.

If you have any information please contact police on 101, quoting incident reference PR/P19255891.
