M2 off-slip in Belfast city centre closed due to lorry fire

A lane at the M2 off-slip in Belfast has been closed due to a lorry on fire.

Police say lane 1 is closed at Nelson Street and the fire service is in attendance.

Delays are expected in the area.

PSNI Road Policing and Safety tweeted: "Lane 1 of the M2 off-slip, Nelson Street, Belfast, closed due to lorry fire.

"Delays expected to allow fire service to deal with it, and then recovery."

Meanwhile, the First Minister has shared her condolences with the family of a young man who has died in a road crash.

Police said on Wednesday that the Belfast Road between Fivemiletown and Brookeborough had been closed following a "serious crash".

It is understood a car and motorbike were involved.

Arlene Foster posted on social media: "Heartbreaking news from my neighbourhood this evening. Our prayers are with this young man's family who have been plunged into unimaginable grief. Please remember them."

Fermanagh UUP councillor Victor Warrington said he knows the young man's family.

He added: "It is very sad for a family coming up to Christmas. There is never a good time of year but certainly coming up to Christmas leaves it more difficult.

"This particular bit of road unfortunately has had numerous fatalities in the last few years."
