M2 crash causing long delays across Belfast

Motorists have been warned of delays and tailbacks following a collision on a Belfast motorway.

Police have been called to a collision on the M2 this morning, close to the M3, and have said that there are expected to be delays in the area until the carriageway has been cleared.

They are asking motorists to avoid the area if possible with tailbacks stretching as far back as the Greencastle junction.

Trafficwatch NI said: "RTC M2 Citybound at Nelson Street exit on M3 Bridge bound lanes - down to one lane heading towards the M3 Bridge East Belfast (07:50) - delays back to J2 Greencastle."

No further details of the incident have been released.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Motorists are advised of disruption and tailbacks due to a road traffic collision on the M2.

"This is on the M2, close to the M3, which leads to the Bangor direction.

"Please avoid the area if at all possible."

Road closures are also in place at the Duncrue Link Road in Belfast as the fire service continues to deal with an overnight blaze at a recycling depot.
