M1 statement as cause of obstruction which closed lanes for 3 hours confirmed

Three lanes of the M1 were closed in Nottinghamshire after a 'shed load of glass' was scattered on the carriageway.

Highways England closed off the lanes at about 9am on Friday (April 30) after what it described as an "obstruction" on the road.

Congestion on the motorway began to build as traffic officers handled the incident, clearing debris off the carriageway.

The three-lane closure was eventually released down to just one lane while the debris was cleared, before reopening at around 11.50am.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported at about 10.45am that the incident involved a "shed load of glass".

The site also noted that traffic was "coping well" at the point where just one lane was closed.

A notice on the site said: "One lane closed due to shed load of glass on M1 Northbound from J26 A610 (Nottingham/Eastwood) to J27 A608 Mansfield Road (Hucknall/Underwood).

"Traffic coping well. Lanes one (of four) is closed."

Highways England confirmed slightly before 12noon that all lanes had reopened.
