Loose horse makes its way onto the M1 southbound

Commuters were rubbing their eyes in disbelief this morning when a horse managed to make its way onto the M1.

The lost horse had somehow made its way onto the M1 southbound near junction 41 at Carr Gate.

Our traffic news provided Inrix said: "M1 Southbound entry slip road closed, stationary traffic due to all traffic being temporarily held and loose horse on road at J41 A650 (Carrgate). Congestion to J43 (M621 interchange).

"Traffic now held at around 07:45 while the horse is safely moved. Lane one (of two) was initially blocked as you join the main carriageway. The horse is on the grass verge near the entry slip road. Authorities are on scene."

Fortunately police officers were able to get the horse off the motorway and re-unite it with its owner before anyone was hurt.
