M1 slip road closed as fire crews work to secure a sign

The exit slip road of the M1 at junction 29a heading north has been closed over a large sign board.

Crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services are working to secure signage that "had been affected by the high winds".

Pictures posted on Wednesday morning (February 12) show part of the large sign board coming away at the entrance to the East Markham Services.

There is currently no access to the services while crews make the area safe.

Highways England tweeted: "Good morning. The M1 northbound exit slip at J29A remains closed. There is no access to Euro Markham services from the M1 north. Ensure you have sufficient fuel to complete your journey."

It added: "Junction 29A northbound exit slip M1 remains closed whilst Derbyshire FRS secure a safety defect within Euro Markham services."

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services tweeted: "Crews from Chesterfield are currently working to secure signage that had been affected by the high winds. Follow Highways EMIDS for the latest in respect of this road closure."
