M1 pothole closes lane as picture shows extent of damage

Pictures released by traffic officers have shown the extent of a pothole that's closed a lane near the M1.

The lane is shut on the A50 to allow for emergency repairs.

According to the traffic monitoring site Inrix, the closure is in place between junction one for the J1 B6540 Tamworth Road (Long Eaton) and junction 24 for the M1 (Nottingham South / East Midlands Airport).

Highways England Tweeted a couple of photos of the issue.

It said: "Traffic officers are currently at scene, maintenance crews are on their way to the area to assist."
