M1 partially closed after report of a person hanging from a tree

Part of the M1 was partially closed this morning after it was reported that someone was hanging from a tree.

The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between Junction 29 for Chesterfield and Junction 28 for Matlock.

Derbyshire police said the reason for the lane closure was that it had received a report that somebody was "hanging from a tree" on the side of the motorway, reports DerbyshireLive.

Officers were sent out on the basis they were concerned about somebody's safety.

On closer inspection, officers found it was a boiler suit and not a person.

A police spokeswoman said: "Someone reported to us that they thought they saw somebody hanging from a tree. We had to close one lane so we could inspect.

"After inspection it was found to be a boiler suit."

All lanes opened again at around 11.15am.
