M1: Man dies after incident which closed road for 7 hours

A man has died following a collision on the M1, police have confirmed.

A 45-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash on Wednesday, September 29.

Emergency services attended but the man died a short time after.

The M1 northbound was closed northbound between junctions 25 and 26 following reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian at about 8.50am.

Following investigations the motorway was reopened at around 3.20pm.

A tweet from Nottinghamshire Police on Friday, October 1, read: "A man has died following a collision on the M1. Emergency services attended however despite their best efforts a 45-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later."

Sergeant Craig Luckett, from Nottinghamshire Police’s serious collision investigation unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and friends at this very difficult time and we have specialist officers supporting them following this tragic incident.”

“I would also like to thank drivers for their patience and cooperation while the motorway was closed.”

“Our investigation is ongoing and we would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any dash-cam footage, to get in touch by calling Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 128 of 29 September 2021.”
