M1 Lorry crash causes long delays after driver taken to hospital

Drivers have faced long delays after a lorry crash along a stretch of the M1.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway between Junction 23 for Loughborough and Junction 22 for Coalville just after 5am, reports Derbyshire Live.

Emergency services were called to the scene.

According to the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service one driver, who became trapped in his vehicle, was taken to hospital after suffering serious trauma.

They said: "Call from Highways Agency to reports of an RTC involving 2 x Large Goods vehicles, driver of 1 vehicle trapped.

"Driver of vehicle was extricated by the Fire Service, assessed by EMAS and conveyed to QMC by land Ambulance, vehicle made safe by Fire Service."
