M1 crash near Moira claims life of man in his 20s

Police have confirmed that a man in his 20s has died following a crash on the M1 on Wednesday morning.

It's understood he was the driver of one of three vehicles involved in the crash which happened on the westbound carriageway close to the Moira off slip shortly before 5am.

A PSNI spokesperson added: "Two other people, who were travelling in the same car, have been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not thought to be life threatening. It's understood the driver of the third vehicle was not injured.

"Police investigating the circumstances of the collision would like to hear from witnesses and anyone who may have captured dash-cam footage. Please call 101, quoting reference 207 31/03/21."

A spokesperson for NI Ambulance Service said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 04.52 on Wednesday, 31 March 2021 following reports of an RTC on the M1 Motorway.

"NIAS despatched four Emergency crews and one Officer to the scene. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, two patients were taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance."
