Highways England were forced to close both the north and southbound carriageways on the M1 motorway near Leeds after a collision between three cars and a lorry.
The collision has been described as an 'ongoing police incident' and there are still lanes closed to traffic between J40 A638 Wakefield Road ( Ossett / Wakefield) and J41 A650 (Carrgate) while the emergency services remain at the scene.
The crash happened some time before 10am with a full closure of the M1 for around 20 minutes to allow for an air ambulance to land.
