M1 closed southbound between J36 to J35a after collision between pedestrian and vehicle

A section of the M1 has been closed by police after a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a vehicle in the early hours of the morning.

The collision happened between junctions 36 for Barnsley and 35a heading southbound at around 5.30am on Monday morning (January 20).

All lanes in that section of the M1 have been closed by police who are investigating.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area if possible.

A tweet from South Yorkshire Police said: "The M1 is currently closed between Junction 36 & 35A Southbound following a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian at 5.30am this morning.

"The road is expected to remain closed for some time while our officers investigate. Plan your route and avoid the area if possible."
