The M1 northbound near Meadowhall will be closed until around 4pm today following a crash.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 34 and 35 (Sheffield/Rotherham) has been closed by emergency services following a multiple vehicle accident.

Highways England have cleared trapped traffic that was stuck before the accident scene but says the M1 northbound will be closed until around 4pm this afternoon while investigations take place.

A diversion route is in place:

  • Northbound road users are advised to follow the 'Hollow Triangle' diversion symbol and exit the M1 using the M1 (South) exit slip.
  • At the end of the slip road take the 3rd exit from the roundabout and continue under the M1 onto the lower level of the viaduct. (M1 J34 North).
  • At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto the A6109 (Meadow Bank Road), continue to the next roundabout and take the 1st exit onto the A629 (Upper Wortley Road).
  • Continue for 4 miles and re-join the M1 at J35.

The closure is causing delays on surrounding roads.

Emergency services were called to reports of a serious collision involving three vehicles on the M1 northbound near to Sheffield at 8.20am.
