M1 closed and driver reported after box of foam tubing spills over motorway

Police were forced to close the M1 in both directions earlier today after foam tubing spilled all over the carriageway.

The West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Unit said the driver had been reported for have an insecure load.

In a tweet posted at 10.14am, police said the vehicle lost a box of foam tubing and the resulting mess resulted in both sides of the M1 being closed while officers and Highways England cleared the carriageway.

The incident happened between junctions 46 and 47 for of the M1 northbound, for Leeds and Garforth.

The tweet read: "M1 North J.46-47. This vehicle lost a box of foam tubing, which resulted in both sides of M1 being closed while we and HighwaysYORKS cleared the carriageway.

"Driver has been reported for insecure load. #OperationalSupport #Team3 #Secureyourloads"
