M1 Belfast caravan fire passengers have lucky escape as PSNI issue warning

A family has escaped injury after their caravan went on fire on the M1 on Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at around 7am on June 9 at junction 6 in Lisburn, Belfast-bound.

Emergency services attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "This morning on the M1 motorway officers from RPU Mahon Road attended this caravan on fire on the hard shoulder. Fortunately no-one was seriously injured.

"The driver and his family got out of their vehicle safely.

"Please remember to ensure all flammable items are securely stored in any vehicles/mobile homes before commencing your journey and take the time to check everything before you leave."

At the time of the incident, Trafficwatch NI said: " #Lisburn M1 citybound J6 - J3 M1 caravan fire on bus lane @goapplegreen services, @NIFRSOFFICIAL attending - Motorway remains open."

They later added: " #Lisburn - The caravan fire on the M1 citybound at the @goapplegreen Lisburn Service continues to cause significant traffic disruption this morning around J8 Blaris, J7 Sprucefield and the roads feeding into this area. Motorway is open, just very slow."
