Thousands of UK shoppers have crowned Marks and Spencer as their favourite supermarket to shop at, beating out tough competition from Aldi amidst the ongoing cost of living.
The iconic high-street giant took the top spot in this year's Good Housekeeping Food Awards 2022, where it also managed to scoop up a whopping five more awards for their prestigious food and drink. Budget supermarket Aldi still proved to be a popular choice, as it was named M&S' runner-up in the annual awards that celebrates UK shoppers foodie favourites.
The results come as the cost of living crisis has forced households across the country to switch up their shopping habits, including switching to budget supermarkets and value branded products.
Shoppers across the country have been voting in the annual awards since April. The Good Housekeeping Awards recognise the brands and products that deliver, not only on range and price, but also on aesthetic, experience and customer service.
It comes just after the British retailer narrowly held their own against the supermarket giant to be named the UK's Favourite In-store Supermarket earlier this year. An annual Which? survey back in February found that M&S was shoppers favourite with 78% of the vote, compared to Aldi's 77%.

Stuart Machin, M&S Chief Executive, said: “Our goal is to protect the magic of our great quality, great value M&S products and modernise the way we bring these to our customers. That’s what our transformative store renewal programme is all about and we’ve made some brilliant progress over the past two years rolling the format out to 45 stores.
"Being named the nation’s favourite supermarket is recognition of the great work we’ve achieved but there is still more to do. We must continue to modernise our store estate and drive forward with our transformation, creating a more digital and omnichannel M&S that offers consistently great quality and value to our customers. This is how we will achieve our aim of becoming the most trusted retailer in the UK where people love to work and shop.”
And being named the nation's favourite UK supermarket was not the only coveted award that M&S managed to steal from Aldi this year. The retailer was also named Favourite Organic Brand, Favourite Wine Retailer and Favourite Premium Supermarket Range Winner. In all three categories, Aldi came in second-place.
Angela Trofymova, Head of Food Testing at the Good Housekeeping Institute said: “The Good Housekeeping Food Awards are a badge of honour as they are voted for by our readers and M&S has been crowned their favourite place to shop, taking top spot in several of our categories this year including the highly coveted favourite supermarket".
