M&S shoppers surprised over cheeky aubergine-shaped Easter egg

M&S has teased eager fans on its upcoming Easter launches - but one cheeky chocolate egg has raised eyebrows.

The high street favourite is selling a suggestive-looking aubergine-shaped Easter egg as part of its vegan chocolate range.

M&S unveiled its special new treat to fans on social media, which comes in non-dairy dark chocolate shaped like the cheeky vegetable.

The chain wrote: "Stop scrolling: our ‘Egg-Plant Kitchen’ vegan Easter egg is here to brighten up your January in all its aubergine-shaped glory.

"You can thank us later. Pick it up in store now!"

While the aubergine is a popular and versatile vegetable, it has an x-rated meaning in the emoji world and is used to symbolise a penis.

Surprised shoppers were quick to point this out, commenting on the Instagram post.

One person wrote: "I can see that being a Valentine gift for the [aubergine emoji] fans."

Another said: "Jesus isn’t the only thing that rose again at Easter!"

"It's not April Fools yet M&S! Do you know what the aubergine emoji is used for? Crying," another shopper commented.

And one follower joked: "I wonder if Ann Summers will be selling them as well!"

This year Easter falls on Sunday, April 4.
