Marks and Spencer’s iconic chocolate Colin the Caterpillar cake has been given a makeover just in time for Easter.

The beloved sweet treat has been given a pink top hat and additional colourful egg decorations in theme with the upcoming national holiday.

The new “Egg Hunt Colin the Caterpillar” is available now in all M&S stores and costs £10.

In addition to the new Colin, M&S has also released a Colin the Caterpillar milk chocolate Easter egg for £5 in store.

The egg comes complete with a treat bag of white chocolate mini Colin faces.

The new Easter Colin the Caterpillar follows last year’s creation, which came under fire for being “scary”.

The famed chocolate cake was given an Easter Bunny-themed look with white chocolate rabbit ears added to its face and mini orange carrots decorations on top.

But the makeover didn’t sit well with Colin fans, who took to social media to criticise it.

“Most disturbing looking bunny I’ve ever seen!” one person tweeted.

A second added: “Looks like the bunny from Donnie Darko. They should save it for Halloween, it looks demonic.”

M&S has referenced the incident in a press release for this year’s Easter Colin.

“After the slight *ahem* controversy over his appearance last Easter*, Colin the Caterpillar has put on his finery and scrubbed up for this year’s spring celebrations,” the company states.

“*He’s still haunted by the Donnie Darko comparisons!”

People have expressed their joy at the new Easter Colin over on social media, with a post on M&S’s Instagram already garnering more than 14,000 likes.

“Another Colin glow up!” commented one person.

“We need this,” added another.
