M&S just gave Percy Pigs a big makeover and shoppers are loving it

Every so often one of the nation's favourite treats, Percy Pig, gets an exciting makeover.

Over the years we've seen countless additions to the Percy Pig range - from phizzy pigtails and Percy's parents, to his wonderful other half Penny Pig - the possibilities really do seem endless.

We've even seen Piers Morgan ranting about a vegan version of Percy live on GMB. Shock.

Now Percy has been given one of his most exciting makeovers to date - and if you're watching your sugar intake, you'll be one happy bunny.

M&S has announced that packets of Percy Pigs containing 1/3 less sugar are now being stocked in stores, so you can chow down on the treat with less guilt than usual.

Speaking about the innovation, M&S Percy Product Developer, Natalie Tate, said: “As customers are increasingly aware of their sugar intake, our new Reduced Sugar Percy Pigs are perfect for any Percy Pigs fans who love the fruity flavour but are looking to cut down their sugar a little.

After news of the reduced-sugar snack was shared by M&S on Facebook, shoppers rushed to praise the idea.

"Fabulous idea - I'm not diabetic, but I can't eat a lot of sugary products as I go hyper! If I eat anything sugary at night, I can't sleep! Will try these!" said one.

Another Facebook user added: "Does this mean you can eat 1/3 more?!"

"Now we’ve got an excuse to buy more as they are healthier!" wrote somebody else.

M&S has confirmed that the original Percy Pig sweet will still be available, and the reduced sugar packets are another variation in the range.

This isn't the only makeover Percy has seen this year. In May 2019, the popular piggy snack became available in a vegetarian version, much to the delight of non-meat eaters across the UK.

The gelatine-free treats boast green ears (very fitting), and have been described by many as 'tasting the same' as the original.
