Marks and Spencer issues urgent product recall for item which is possible health risk

Food retailer Marks & Spencer has issued an urgent recall on one of its chicken products, after tests discovered it contained egg which was not declared as a potential allergen on the label.

The product is its packs of 192g Chicken Bites, which contain 16 bites, and is the batch specifically with the use-by-date of March 5, 2020.

The Food Standards Agency has issued the product recall as an allergy alert.

"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg," the FSA said.

Product information

Pack size: 192g (16 Bites)

Use by date: March 5, 2020

Allergens: Egg

Marks & Spencer is recalling M&S Chicken Bites because they contain egg which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg.

Action taken by the company

Marks & Spencer is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

The FSA advice to consumers

If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to egg do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.
