M&S issues stark warning to customers who shop in store as restrictions ease

Marks and Spencer have issued a warning to shoppers as restrictions ease across the UK.

England welcomed their "Freedom Day" as rules around face masks and social distancing were scrapped and nightclubs opened their doors.

While Scotland dropped to Level 0 which sees pubs extending their curfew from 10pm to 12pm and eight people from four households can meet indoors.

However, the boss of Marks and Spencer, Steve Rowe, is cautioning customers that store hours may have to be cut, Birmingham reports.

Rowe warns that by mid-August, as many as 1-5 supermarket staff could be in home isolation as the number of people getting alerted by the test and tace app in England and Test and Protect app in Scotland, increases rapidly.

It is now being branded by some people as a "pingdemic" as more people are getting notified and asked to isolate.

“If there’s shortages we’ll have to manage it by changing hours of stores [and] reducing hours,” Rowe said.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is among those affected this week, alongside Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

In Scotland those arriving back from Amber listed countries no longer need to isolate and Martin Lewis is urging parents who need to stay home to look after kids to apply for an isolation grant if it means they are losing income.

The Scottish Government are offering a Covid self isolation support grant that covers those needing to isolate and those who need to care for someone under 16 who are isolating.

However, people isolating can only qualify for this grant if they will be losing income as a result and cannot work from home.
