M&S is releasing its most controversial product to date, and shoppers are divided

Marks and Spencer is known amongst shoppers for its delicious food products which sometimes push the boundaries.

Last month the store kept us all entertained by announcing the release of its giant Love Sausage for Valentine's Day, and then had shoppers howling after revealing its 'questionable' new Colin the Caterpillar Easter cake.

And now the British retailer has announced it will be releasing three new products in its food halls - and they might be the most controversial ones yet.

Creamy Marmite Butter (£3 for 100g)

The butter could become a breakfast staple (M&S)

Marmite Cheese Twists (£1 each)

Marmite cheese twists will be available later this month (M&S)

Melt-in-the-mouth savoury twists that combine classic Marmite, tangy cheddar and buttery crisp pastry.

In stores soon.

Marmite Cream Cheese  (£2.50 for 140g)

Chloe Irwin, head of licensing for Unilever brands, told the Grocer : "Marmite lovers are always on the hunt for new ways to enjoy their favourite spread, and we think these three products from foodie favourite M&S will be the answer to their prayers."

She added: "[The new products will] appeal to Marmite enthusiasts, those looking to try it for the first time, as well as creative cooks who are looking to experiment with new recipes."

It won't surprise you to hear that, in true Marmite tradition, the products are already dividing people.

While some think they look like the best thing since sliced bread, others are horrified by the idea of combining family favourites with the yeast spread.

Responding to the news on Instagram, one disgruntled shopper wrote: "The butter is REALLY not attractive!"

Somebody else responded with sick face emojis.

Others seem over the moon with the release, as one fan wrote: "Omg marmite is having quite the revival!"

Another suggested: "That would be delightful on my bagel."

Will shoppers love it or hate it? We'll just have to wait and see.
