M&S icon Colin the Caterpillar has had a festive makeover for Christmas 2019

Earlier this week Marks & Spencer revealed exactly what would be included in its Christmas menu for 2019, and the high-street retailer certainly didn't disappoint.

From sparkling snow globe gin to a foot-long eclair, trifle flavoured liqueur and mushroom bao buns, the range quickly proved it had something to please even the pickiest of eaters.

One thing missing from the menu, though, was everyone's favourite edible creepy crawly and birthday cake fill-in extraordinaire - Colin the Caterpillar.

But now Colin's back, and he's had a wonderfully festive makeover.

Christmas Colin tastes exactly the same as a normal cake, but instead of being topped with colourful buttons, he sports candy canes, holly leaves, miniature presents and snowflakes - which are crafted from white chocolate.

Colin the Caterpillar now comes topped with festive Christmas chocolates (M&S)

And because it's Christmas, Colin's also wearing a jolly Santa hat (meaning you get more chocolate than usual, hurrah).

People are already excited about the news of a Christmas Colin, and many are planning to chow down on one instead of yule logs and Christmas pudding.

Social media has been flooded with comments from fans excited for the yuletide treat to hit shelves.

"M&S taking out a Christmas Colin the Caterpillar cake is music to my ears. That’s Christmas pudding sorted," said one shopper on Twitter.

"There is going to a Colin the Christmas caterpillar cake this year. dreams really do come true if you just wish hard enough kids," added somebody else.

A third exclaimed: "I'm 100% getting a Christmas Colin the caterpillar."

M&S has confirmed that Christmas Colin the Caterpillar will cost £10, and will be in stores in early November.
