M&S has created a brand new fruit - but shoppers are baffled

When it comes to innovative new food products, Marks and Spencer is always ahead of the curve.

The British high-street retailer often releases delicious new food products which intrigue and excite shoppers, and often they divide people, too.

But M&S' latest food hybrid could be one of its most talked about yet, as it has baffled people.

Posting on Facebook, M&S unveiled its new lime-melon hybrid - the quite aptly named 'limelon'. Brilliant.

The shop's social media post read: "Is it a lime? Is it a melon? No, it’s a limelon!

"New in selected store now, this fruity hybrid is a juicy melon with a burst of zesty lime flavour. Super refreshing, it makes the perfect good-for-you summer snack."

But the new creation has divided shoppers, reports the ECHO, and nobody can agree.

"I have now lost all my trust and respect to Marks and will not shop any more there," said one critic.

Another added: "Why do they have to muck about with everything."

"Is it April 1st?" asked somebody else.

A fourth critic slammed: "What on earth is this?"

However, some people can't wait to get their hands on some, as one shopper exclaimed: "Looks delicious! Will add to my shopping list for later on!"

"These are absolutely delicious. Hopefully pick up another one today," said another fan.

"These taste amazing.... so tangy and refreshing," wrote another convert.

Looks like limelon cocktails are on the menu tonight, then!
