M&S bosses tight-lipped on alleged Covid outbreak at Kilmarnock store

Marks & Spencer bosses have today refused to confirm or deny an alleged coronavirus outbreak among staff at its Kilmarnock store.

A source claimed that a number of workers at the King Street outlet had tested positive for the virus.

However, an official from the high street giant said they would not comment on the health and wellbeing of its staff.

The popular store was open for business yesterday and continued to operate this afternoon.

An M&S spokesman said: "The health and wellbeing of our colleagues and customers always comes first and we have enhanced cleaning procedures and measures in place across all M&S stores to help ensure social distancing.

"Any colleague that tests positive for COVID-19, or who has been in close contact with a colleague who tests positive, is supported to self-isolate straight away on full pay.

"As well as working with NHS Scotland Test and Protect, we also have our own robust contact tracing system to ensure that we reach all relevant colleagues. We also carry out a deep clean of the store as a precaution."
