Lyons and Daniel crime clans cops use informants in bid to smash turf war

The Lyons and Daniel crime clans have been in a Glasgow drug turf war for almost 20 years.

It is believed police informants have been used to gather intelligence on their activities over the decades.

Boss Steven Lyons, 40, fled overseas in 2006 after being shot in the deadly Applerow Motors ambush in the city’s Lambhill.

He has a £200,000 bounty on his head.

Steven “Bonzo” Daniel, 41 – nephew of late crime kingpin Jamie Daniel – was horrifically scarred in a machete attack in 2017.

Six Lyons cronies got a total of 104 years in jail.

Prison authorities have been struggling to keep rival members of the Lyons and Daniel families apart.

Inmates linked to the Daniel group were held in isolation after being shipped out of a top security facility.

Thugs with ties to the Glasgow gang had been locked up at Edinburgh’s HMP Saughton in an effort to keep them separate from Lyons henchmen.

Officials hoped the move would prevent tit-for-tat violence on the streets spreading behind bars.
