Full-time: Lyon 2-1 Bayern Munich

It was not easy, but Lyon are through to the semi-finals.

90+3 min: Dallmann is booked for upending the dancing Karachoaui, and that will surely be that. Lyon are seconds away.

Updated

90+2 min: We are into the final minute of stoppage time.

90+1 min: Asseyi tries to take on Bronze, but she overruns the ball and it bobbles out for a goal-kick. Bouhaddi will wallop it upfield.

90 min: There will be three added minutes.

Updated

89 min: The free-kick is 30 yards from the Bayern goal, with Majri looking for Renard instead of playing it safe towards a corner. Lyon are moments away from reaching the semis.

89 min: Hegering is booked for a hefty tackle on Kumagai.

88 min: Brilliant defending by Majri keeps Bayern at bay, intervening to cut out a cute through ball. The Germans are knocking on the door, so far to no avail ...

Updated

86 min: Bronze has been a rock in defence. The Lyon full-back has just headed away another long ball into the box.

84 min: Gwinn requires a dab of treatment after appearing to injure her shoulder. Meanwhile, Lyon tweak personnel as Bacha replaces Marozsan before Laudehr is penalised for a lunge on Karchoaui.

Updated

83 min: PSG lead Arsenal once more:

82 min: ... Bouhaddi gathers. Safe hands, this time.

80 min: A couple of Bayern changes, with Zadrazil and Ilestedt replacing Lohmann and Glas, who have arguably been Bayern’s best performers. They win a corner ...

Updated

79 min: Lohmann clips the crossbar! She swivelled on the edge of the box after Bayern poured forward before pulling the trigger. Lyon struggled to contain the attack and Bayern send Lyon another warning. They are not going quietly.

76 min: Marozsan tries her luck from distance but the Lyon midfielder’s effort lands on the roof of the net, much to Benkarth’s relief. With 14 minutes to go, this remains an absorbing meeting.

Updated

75 min: Laudehr replaces the replacement, with Jovana Damnjanović forced off through injury. She is in tears as she is hoisted off by two members of staff. It seemed innocuous but the striker is distraught with an apparent knee problem.

Updated

73 min: It’s chucking it down in Bilbao.

70 min: Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir, Lyon’s half-time substitute, fouls the Bayern sub Jovana Damnjanović but they fail to make the most of the free-kick. But Asseyi continues to cause trouble.

Updated

69 min: Asseyi has injected Bayern with a shot of energy, as well as belief. The winger has been at the heart of everything since coming on. Lyon need to stem Bayern’s flow.

Updated

68 min: It remains 1-1 in San Sebastián:

66 min: Now it is Lyon’s turn to make a double change, with Jodie Taylor and Karchoaui replacing Nikita Parris and Le Sommer, who has been unusually anonymous. That goal has given Lyon a fright, if nothing else. Can Bayern find a leveller?

Updated

GOAL! Lyon 2-1 Bayern (Simon, 64)

A lifeline? A consolation? Such a poor goal from a Lyon perspective, but Simon’s driven free-kick powers underneath Bouhaddi and in.

Updated

64 min: The substitute Asseyi is tripped by Majri and Bayern earn a chance to trouble the Lyon defence. They will swing in a free-kick from the right flank ...

Updated

60 min: That free-kick forces Bayern into a rethink, with Jens Scheuer introducing Asseyi and Damnjanovic off the bench.

GOAL! Lyon 2-0 Bayern Munich (Majri, 59)

Beautiful. Majri bends the ball in, via Benkarth, and it is now 29 goals without reply in this competition for an unforgiving Lyon.

Updated

58 min: Lyon win a free-kick just inside the D. Cascarino was felled by a full-blooded Bayern challenge. Lyon are not short of set-piece specialists, with Majri and Marozsan both stood over it ...

Updated

56 min: Bouhaddi calmly gathers Simon’s free-kick.

55 min: Marozsan is booked for scything down Lohmann.

54 min: Benkarth denies Cascarino! It was a slick Lyon move, with Bronze again influential, playing a wonderful pass infield to blindside the Bayern midfield. Then a first-time ball lands at the feet of Cascarino, who races beyond a slow Bayern backline before bearing down on goal. But Benkarth stands firm.

50 min: A delicate, hanging cross towards the back post by Glas is superbly dealt with by Lucy Bronze, who has looked really solid at right-back for Lyon. As for that half-time change, Gunnarsdóttir joined from semi-finalists Wolfsburg in July.

49 min: Lyon go close to doubling their lead from a corner – but the ball squirts away from Parris, whose header separates the sides.

Updated

47 min: Gunnarsdóttir replaced Henry at the break, a sign that Jean-Luc Vasseur was not entirely happy with that underwhelming first half. There were few green shoots for Lyon until Parris’s goal.

Updated

46 min: Bayern get the second half started!

Half-time: Lyon 1-0 Bayern Munich

Nikita Parris’s brave header is the difference at the interval. Bayern made Lyon, the six-times winners of this competition, look extremely ordinary for long spells but Parris stole in to give Lyon the lead a few minutes before the break.

45 min: There will be a single minute of added time.

Updated

45 min: Elsewhere, Arsenal have equalised:

44 min: That goal has pierced Bayern’s belief.

43 min: Nikita Parris is back up on her feet after some treatment. As for Laura Benkarth, the Bayern goalkeeper is booked for her role in the clash. Parris, formerly of Manchester City, was brave to rush in and head at goal despite the onrushing Benkarth.

Updated

GOAL! Lyon 1-0 Bayern Munich (Parris, 41)

The reigning champions take the lead against the run of play. But Nikita Parris has hurt herself in the process. It was a heavy collision between Parris and Benkarth, who came racing out of goal to deny Parris, who headed past the goalkeeper. Parris did brilliantly to skate in between Demann and Benkarth and nod the ball in, latching on to a looping ball by Cascarino.

Updated

38 min: Majri goes on a jinking run down the left flank but Glas is wise to it. Bayern continue to do the simple things neatly. Lyon have not done an awful lot wrong but they are struggling to open up a resolute Bayern backline.

36 min: Cascarino springs to life on the edge of the box, darting inside from the right before trying to find Nikita Parris, but the forward is flagged offside. The favourites’ tag hanging around Lyon’s neck seems to be weighing heavy.

33 min: Bronze nudges the ball back to Bouhaddi after Bayern counterattacked down the right wing. Things are heating up a little.

32 min: ... Majri tries to pick out Renard, but Bayern clear.

30 min: Bronze goes on a rampaging run after stealing possession inside her own half. She flew down the right flank, with Dallmann in hot pursuit. The Bayern midfielder is fortunate not to be penalised for tugging at Bronze’s shirt, much to the full-back’s amusement. Lyon do eventually win a free-kick down the left ...

Updated

29 min: Bronze is penalised for catching Gwinn with a flailing left arm. Bayern win a free-kick deep inside their own half, and it’s another opportunity for them to build from the back. They are shading things at the moment.

26 min: Demann limps away after a coming together with Cascarino, the exciting 23-year-old Lyon forward. It was all fairly innocuous, but the Bayern defender has definitely come off worse.

Updated

23 min: Jean-Luc Vasseur will surely be a little concerned that his side have failed to stamp any real authority on the game. Bayern’s decision to go toe-to-toe with Lyon, the six-times winners of this competition, seems to be paying off.

22 min: Bayern get a whiff of goal! Glas played a wonderful, arcing ball in from the right flank. Schüller threw herself at it but could not connect. That was a fine chance – Lyon were carved open – but the Bayern forward failed to meet the cross.

20 min: Elsewhere, PSG lead Arsenal 1-0!

18 min: ... Marozsan sends it in, and it’s headed back into the box at the back post, but Lyon cannot locate Renard or the lurking Buchanan. It was not the best free-kick but Bayern still had to deal with the subsequent pinball.

Updated

17 min: Bronze is upended by Demann. Lyon win a free-kick, 30-odd yards from goal, on the right-hand side of the 18-yard box ...

Updated

14 min: Bayern are looking composed and, perhaps most importantly, compact. Lyon are certainly not having it all their own way, with the German club seeing plenty of the ball.

Updated

11 min: Nikita Parris is in one-on-one ... but the England striker is clearly offside. A booming Bronze header had found its way towards Parris. Bronze has won eight trophies in three seasons at Lyon since joining the French club from City in 2017, but is leaving at the end of this campaign. She will want to go out with a bang.

Updated

10 min: Bayern cannon a ball in from the right and Lucy Bronze has to be alert to hoover up and avert the danger. Gwinn was lurking on the edge of the 18-yard box, sniffing around for any mistakes but Bronze classily preserves possession.

8 min: Dallmann is fouled on halfway by Kumagai and Bayern win a free-kick on halfway, a chance to gain some territory. Bayern will equally be feeling reasonably chirpy. They are popping the ball about without truly penetrating Lyon.

5 min: Aside from an early scare seconds after kick-off, when Bayern stole possession before zooming forward to the edge of the D, Lyon have looked comfortable. Bayern, too, are stroking the ball around nicely. A fairly low-key start in Bilbao.

3 min: Bayern clear a routine Lyon corner.

2 min: Cascarino skirts down the right flank before delivering a dangerous cross towards the front post. It forces the Bayern goalkeeper Benkarth to nudge it clear into the path of Henry, who drags wide on the edge of the 18-yard box.

Peeeeeeeeeep!

After a minute’s silence for the victims of the coronavirus pandemic, all players take the knee before Lyon get things started.

Kick-off is less than five minutes away. Before then, a couple of pre-match stats to get stuck into: Lyon are yet to concede in this season’s Women’s Champions League knockout stages, scoring 27 without reply; Bayern’s only victory in four previous Uefa competition meetings against French opponents was their 1-0 Champions League quarter-final first leg success in March 2017, against Paris Saint-Germain.

Lyon come into this one having conquered in the French Cup a fortnight ago. The goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi proved the saviour as Lyon triumphed 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw with PSG. Bouhaddi made the difference by saving Lea Khelifi’s spot kick. “I work a lot on penalties in training,” she said. Bouhaddi may have to remind us of her talents if the game is level after extra time ...

Gem up on all the latest mouthwatering moves:

As for the view from the Bayern camp, their manager believes they can thrive as the underdogs. “Lyon are the top favourites,” says Jens Scheuer. “But we can live with that because that means we have more to win than to lose. For Lyon, that is different because they are expected to win. That is our chance. The preparation has been very good, if short. Everyone is in good form and we’ve no injuries to report aside from our long-term ones. Lyon are an outstanding team, incredibly strong and seem to get better. However, I think we will manage to find opportunities.”

Updated

Some juicy pre-match soundbites to further whet the appetite, courtesy of Lyon’s manager, Jean-Luc Vasseur. “The hardest part is staying at the top,” he says. “That’s what drives me, like the players and the staff. Everyone is waiting for us [to slip up]. We expect a tough, tough game. It’s up to us to have the right aggressiveness in the challenges we will face. I find it quite passionate and exciting.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal are preparing to take on PSG:

Preamble

As a club, Bayern Munich are pretty well versed in these competitions but it is Lyon who are the record six-times winners of the Women’s Champions League, lifting the trophy in each of the previous four seasons. They are quite simply a formidable force and arrive into this game with a fifth successive European title in their sights. One of the game’s most talented players, Ada Hegerberg, the winner of the inaugural Ballon d’Or Féminin, is absent through injury, as is the France defender Griedge Mbock Bathy, but they still boast the England quartet of Lucy Bronze, Alex Greenwood, Nikita Parris and Jodie Taylor, a wily operator in attack. Bayern face an almighty task to topple Lyon but, in a one-off game, the most successful French club in history acknowledge they cannot afford a slip-up. The winner of this one will face either Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain, also in action tonight, in the semi-finals in Bilbao on Wednesday, after Wolfsburg, who demolished Glasgow City, take on Barcelona in the other semi 24 hours earlier.

Kick-off: 7pm (BST)
