Lyon star in Rangers Europa League plea as French giants put private jet on standby for Ibrox

Lyon star Bruno Guimaraes has begged UEFA to allow him to play against Rangers in Thursday’s Europa League showdown at Ibrox.

The French giants are sweating on the Brazilian playmaker's availability for the Group A opener in Glasgow.

Lyon are still waiting for a response from UEFA about whether they will be able to include Brazilian due Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta, along with Zimbabwean attacker Tino Kadewere with the trio having played in red list countries and falling foul of Scottish Government quarantine rules.

So desperate are Lyon to get them to play that they have told UEFA they will fly the trio over in their own private jet and isolate them until the match at Ibrox, but they have yet to receive the green light.

And Guimaraes has insisted he would do whatever it takes to play at Ibrox. He said: "I am absolutely desperate to play.

"If necessary, I will do as many PCR tests as they want to ensure I am on the pitch on Thursday.

"The truth is I was absolute dead after the Strasbourg game at the weekend! I travelled in a private plane to get back for it from Brazil and I hadn't properly slept for three days before it.

"The plan is to have a lot of rest before I go to Scotland if I am allowed.

"That was my 50th game with Lyon and I really feel at home and that is important to me. My ambition is to play in the 2022 World Cup and this season will count a lot for that.

"With the new manager, Peter Bosz, I feel really good here. He has confidence in me.

"Last season, I had a lot of injuries and I didn't enjoy it, but I think we have a very good team this season."
