Lyon's confirmed £3.4m loan deal which could be fantastic news for Chelsea and Manchester United

Lyon have confirmed the signing of Karl Toko Ekambi from Villarreal on loan until the end of the season.

This deal could turn out to be fantastic news for Chelsea or Manchester United.

An official statement via the Ligue 1 outfit's official website has details of the loan deal which could be turned into a permanent transfer in the summer.

'This loan deal in the amount of €4m (£3.4m) is accompanied by a purchase option in the amount of €11.5 million to which may be added a maximum of €4 million in incentives as well as a 15% sell-on fee from a possible future transfer (50% if the transfer takes place before 09/15/20)'.

Capable of playing on the left wing, Ekambi is predominately a centre-forward and scored six La Liga goals for Villarreal during the first half of the season whilst also weighing in with a couple of assists.

His arrival at the Groupama Stadium could affect a couple of Premier League clubs in the January transfer window.

Frank Lampard has admitted he's keen to sign a new forward before deadline day after becoming frustrated with his side's inability to kill off teams who sit deep.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils' need for reinforcements in the attacking areas has increased following news that Marcus Rashford is facing up to three months on the sidelines.

But Lyon's deal for Ekambi mean they are ready to let Dembele leave this month?

Judging by Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas' recent comments to RMC that's unlikely to be the case.

"We have not changed our minds," he said. "We already made this issue clear in August. Moussa is an excellent player. A player who we need. We are taking explicit measures in our recruitment to not bring someone in who will compete for his position.

"It is not a question of money. Moussa will be with us."

As a result, Man United might have to look elsewhere amid reports via FootMercato, that they were ready to make a first offer of €50million plus bonuses for Dembele in the light of Rashford's injury.
