Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar sends transfer message to Man City and Pep Guardiola

Houssem Aouar, the midfielder Pep Guardiola described as 'incredible' after Manchester City's Champions League draw with Lyon, has admitted he would love to move to the Etihad.

Guardiola made a point of singling Aouar out after City's 2-2 draw with Lyon in the Champions League group stage in November, arguing that he deserved as much praise as teammate Tanguy Ndombele.

City have been linked with Ndombele as one of the candidates to succeed Fernandinho in midfield, but fellow Frenchman Aouar has also been mooted as a transfer target for the Blues.

The 20-year-old played a key part in Lyon's 2-1 win over City in September at the Etihad, before impressing Guardiola again in the draw in the reverse fixture.

"Houssem Aouar is a very good player, he is incredible," Guardiola said after the Champions League meeting.

"We talk a lot about Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent. He's always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality."

Now, Aouar has spoken about the possibility of moving to City, and praised Guardiola as a manager he aspires to play under.

He told Canal+: “Wouldn’t you like to play for Manchester City? They are a big European club.

"Then there is Pep Guardiola who is the reference for me in terms of a manager. He sees everything before anyone else.”
