Lyon confirm sale of Granit Xhaka alternative to Hertha Berlin

Lyon have confirmed that they have sold midfielder Lucas Tousart to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin for a fee in the region of  £21.1 million, with the player remaining at the Ligue 1 club until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Hertha have been linked with a move for Arsenal man Granit Xhaka since the start of the window, with the Swiss international's future at the Emirates Stadium seeming uncertain.

However, the arrival of Mikel Arteta as head coach has seen the player revive his career, with Arteta speaking of his desire to keep the player at the club past the January transfer window.

Reports in  L'Equipe (via  Get French Football News) did claim that Hertha made an offer to Arsenal of a loan deal until the end of the season with a option to buy worth around £25 million at the end of the loan.

But, it now seems that the Bundesliga club have moved onto other options, with Lyon confirming Tousart's move on their official website.

"Olympique Lyonnais is pleased to be able to count on Lucas Tousart until next May and hopes that he will contribute to the success of the club, still involved in 4 competitions, during this second part of the season," said the statement.

Xhaka has played in 18 Premier League games since the start of the season, but was stripped of the club's captaincy after an incident with fans during the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace back in October.
