Lyon chief slams former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay with exit on the cards

Former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has been slammed by Lyon chief Juninho ahead of his imminent exit from the French side.

The 27-year-old is set to leave the club on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract and is heavily fancied for a move to Barcelona, where he could reunite with former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman.

While he flattered to deceive during his Premier League spell, Depay has shone during his time with Lyon since his move to the club in 2017 and finished this season as Lyon's highest scorer in the league with 21 goals - a tally only better by Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

However, Lyon icon Juninho, despite admitting he had a good relationship with the Dutchman, has issued some spiky words ahead of his departure.

Should Manchester United consider a Memphis Depay reunion? Let us know in the comments below.

"Memphis Depay just wanted a team for himself. It's not a criticism, I had a good relationship with him," he told OLTV.

"But on the other hand, the whole team had to revolve around him and that is very hard. Everyone should feel like they're working the same.

"There are only four players in the world where you have to do everything for them: Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar and Mbappe. If you have one of them, then the team can revolve around them.

"Sorry, I think that Depay is strong, but he's not at their level. And I think that he has to work harder without the ball."

While Barcelona is his expected destination, a move is complicated by Koeman's uncertain position at the club following a disappointing season.

Should Koeman leave the Nou Camp, Memphis's future may be up in the air as it's stated he'll only move to Catalonia if the current manager remains in charge.
