Lyon chief breaks his silence amid Houssem Aouar's transfer decision and Arsenal talks

Arsenal have not made an offer for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

That's according to the Ligue 1 outfit's president Jean-Michel Aulas who has been talking about the future of his star player amid links to the Gunners.

Talk of the Aouar sealing a move to the Emirates Stadium has gained momentum this week.

Firstly Telefoot Chaine - as per Get French Football News - reported on Wednesday that Gunners were set to make an offer greater than €40m (£36.4m) for the Frenchman who impressed during Lyon's run to the Champions League semi-final last season.

Then it was reported that Aouar had made a transfer decision.

According to highly respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 22-year-old wants to seal a move to Arsenal before the transfer window closes on October 5.

In addition, the transfer expert says that Aouar "would like" to join Arsenal and the club have held discussions with his representatives "many times."

However, Aulas has moved to pour cold water on such rumours.

When asked if he thinks Arsenal will sign Aouar, Aulas' response was rather worrying for supporters.

"No I don't think so," he told Chris Wheatley.

"No offer yet, it seems that Arsenal don't want to, or can't invest the price for Houssem, who is our best player."

Earlier in the month, it was revealed by Lyon's Sporting Director, Juninho, that there has been talks with Arsenal regarding Aouar.

"I get on very well with the Sporting Director (Edu)," Juninho told RMC Sport. "We spoke on the phone. Houssem Aouar is really well liked by Arteta.

"There were some discussions for Mattéo Guendouzi, who is also a good player. He was brought up during the discussion.

"But we don’t need his profile, we were very clear.

"If it is like that, we are not interested at all, we cut the conversation, that is where things ended."
