Lyon boss makes shock admission to speculation Jose Mourinho will replace him

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has admitted that it would be "an honour" if Jose Mourinho replaced him in the dugout.

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho 'targets two French clubs' as he plots summer managerial return that he would be interested in taking over in the summer, according to L'Equipe.

Genesio is out of contract at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais at the end of the season but despite guiding the club to the last-16 of the Champions League, chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has shied away from talking about his future.

And Genesio has responded to the claims and hinted that the ex-Chelsea chief would be welcome to his job.

"We can only respect Mourinho," Genesio said. "He's a coach who has won everywhere he's been.

"He is maybe not the one I identify with personality wise, but I respect him a lot regarding his records and achievements in football. He's won everything.

"Everywhere he's been he's won a trophy. He's won Champions Leagues. Obviously, he's a great coach, so, if he succeeds me it would be an honour."

Mourinho is currently unattached after he was sacked by the Red Devils in December.

The Portuguese has previously won titles in his homeland, England, Italy and Spain and has spoken about wanting to claim a "fifth league" in his career.

Mourinho has recently attended a Lille vs Montpellier in the French league before telling beIN Sports.

"I can imagine myself as a coach in Ligue 1," he said.

"I am a man who has worked in four different countries. I like to know other cultures. Working in a new championship would be a fantastic experience.

"For now I'm calm, I try to live better with my family and friends and I work calmly to hope for the opportunity to go back to football."
