Lyndon Dykes reveals the Scotland debt that swayed his big international decision

Lyndon Dykes insists the opportunities to progress his career in Scotland fuelled his decision to pledge his international loyalty to the dark blue jersey.

The 24-year-old striker, who recently joined QPR from Livingston, was born on Australia's Gold Coast to parents from Dumfries.

Speculation over which nation he would choose has been rife for months amid strong interest from both.

But now he's been given a first call-up by Steve Clarke for the Nations League double-header at home to Israel and away to the Czech Republic.

Dykes, who came to Scotland four years ago to join Queen of the South, said: "Scotland gave me my chance for my career.

"I have only played professional four or five years but without Scotland, God knows where I would have been.

"Obviously I wanted to give something back to Scotland. When I am here I feel like I am at home.

"My parents are Scottish, my family is Scottish, my little boy was born in Scotland. Without Scotland I wouldn't be playing football."

Dykes could be in line for an international baptism of fire amid a striker shortage in the Scotland ranks.

Dundee United confirmed on Saturday Lawrence Shankland's ongoing fitness struggles would rule him out before Sheffield United's Oli McBurnie withdrew 24 hours later.
