Lyndon Dykes in Scotland Euro 2020 battle cry as striker admits shave head means 'we're going to war'

Shaven-headed Lyndon Dykes insists Scotland are ready to go to war to ensure they make history tomorrow night.

Steve Clarke ’s men know a Hampden win against Croatia would see them baldly go where no Scotland team has gone before and get past the group stage at a major finals for the first time.

And after shaving his hair off before Scotland won the play-off final in Serbia to get to Euro 2020, then again for Wembley last Friday, Dykes is confident his team-mates will make sure there’ll be no close shaves against Croatia.

He said: “I first did it for the Serbia game and I just shaved it off again before England.

“It was a big game for us and the boys know that, when they see me with the shaved head, we mean business. They know we’re going to war.

“This cut should last a bit. I can’t really do too much with it now.

“Hopefully it gives us a bit of luck.”

Scotland defender Declan Gallagher started the trend by cutting Dykes’ hair in Serbia but they failed to get the rest of the team to follow suit.

QPR star Dykes said: “I did mention the idea of everyone doing the same. Imagine the entire starting line-up coming out all with heads shaved, anyone would be scared!

“But a few of the boys have got bad hairlines so weren’t too keen.”

Clarke now has a country believing but Dykes insists the players have done exactly that from day one. The 25-year-old said: “He just makes sure we believe. You can see how tight we are as a squad. If any player is going to war, all of us are going to war.

“That is the mentality we’ve got and it’s always a good thing when we come up against so-called bigger teams.”

Scotland will go in as underdogs against Croatia, despite home advantage, but Dykes insists the players are happy with that.

He added: “Everyone had written us off in the England game, same against Serbia.

“We just use that to put a little bit of fire in our bellies and come out and prove them wrong. All the commentators and pundits beforehand thought England were going to steamroller us.

“But we showed there is a bit about us, that we are good players as well.

“Us going in as underdogs is definitely a good thing because a lot of people get surprised.

“We did that against Serbia and England.”
