Lyndon Dykes in blue rinse as Rangers linked striker fuels transfer talk with bold new look

Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes has added to the speculation surrounding his future after dyeing his hair blue.

The 24-year-old - who is eligible for Australia and Scotland - has decided to freshen up his look during the close season.

And it will do little to silence speculation over a switch to Rangers with the imposing forward among a list of potential targets for the Ibrox side.

Dykes rose to prominence last season and was the best player on the park in both games against Premiership champions Celtic at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

The former Queen of the South striker has two years remaining on his deal with Livingston but boss Gary Holt has admitted previously that it will be hard to keep his talisman if the right offer comes in.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and sporting director Ross Wilson have both spoken at length this summer about the need to find the right players to help end Celtic's domestic stranglehold.

And Dykes' eye-catching statement comes after Kris Boyd queried whether he or Lyle Taylor would be good enough if Alfredo Morelos was to depart this summer.

Speaking to the Sunday Post, the Ibrox hero said: “If Morelos stays, I understand Rangers being linked with strikers such as Lyle Taylor of Charlton and Livingston’s Lyndon Dykes.

“They have both caught the eye in recent times, and I’m sure they would be good additions. They have different qualities and both know the way to goal.

“But I wonder if either is good enough to be lined up as a direct replacement for Morelos, with an expectation of scoring in excess of 20 goals a season.

“And it would be unfair to pile too much pressure on either of their shoulders.

“Jermain Defoe will play a big part for the team in the coming campaign.

“But I think it would be unfair to ask him to start 40 or 45 games, and look for him to perform at the highest level twice-a-week for 90 minutes.

“He is 37 now and it could well be that most of his work in the coming season will be from coming off the bench."
