Lynch rated definite starter in AFL semi

Richmond insist key forward Tom Lynch will be right to play in the Tigers' AFL semi-final. (AAP)

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick claims Tom Lynch having a scan on a problematic finger is a "non-issue" and the Tigers forward is a certain starter for Friday night's AFL semi-final.

The former Gold Coast big man has missed the Tigers' past two games, including their qualifying final loss to the Brisbane Lions, with a hamstring strain.

Despite overcoming that injury, Lynch has been hampered by a finger since surgery in July and underwent a scan on Tuesday.

Hardwick claims he is not concerned by the 27-year-old's fitness and he will definitely take on St Kilda at Metricon Stadium.

"First I knew of it was (Wednesday) when someone said he had a scan on his finger. For us it's a non-issue," Hardwick told reporters.

"(Lynch) trained strongly today, as he has throughout the week."

Hardwick says it was a "calculated decision" for Lynch not to play in last Friday night's 15-point defeat at the Gabba.

"He was 98 per cent ready to go last week. We thought we'd kick ourselves if we pushed him maybe a session too early and then he missed the remainder of the year.

"We backed our medical staff in, we think we'll get a really good result and he's trained incredible this week."

Star midfielder Dion Prestia has pulled up in good shape after his first match since July.

"He'll get better again," Hardwick said of the reigning best-and-fairest winner.

"You can do as much training as you want, but the reality is as soon as you start playing games it's a different kettle of fish."

Hardwick said he had addressed the Tigers' lack of discipline, which cost them dearly against the Lions with three 50m penalties.

"The reality is it falls on me to make sure it's stamped out," he said.

"Accept the responsibility first and foremost but we've got to get better at that part of the game."
