Police will this week seek arrest warrants for at least two people connected with the production and sale of Lyn weight loss products suspected of causing several deaths.
Deputy national police chief Wirachai Songmetta said on Monday that police would apply for the warrants this week as the interrogation phase was about to finish and suspects were involved in production and sales.
He identified one of the suspects only as "Ying". He believed the suspects remained in the country.
Pol Gen Wirachai also said he had issued orders to find out if any other people had died as a consequence of taking weight loss products in order to expand the legal action. Police already attribute five deaths to Lyn weight loss products and want to establish if any other brands were also responsible for deaths.
On Monday, Wuthikorn Mon-ing, 30, from Kanchanaburi province, met the deputy police chief at the Royal Thai Police Office to ask for the prosecution of people behind lethal weight loss products. His sister Pimolwan, 31, died on March 28, reportedly from the effects of the appetite suppressant sibutramine, after taking Lyn products for about a month.
About 100 sales agents handling Lyn products accompanied Mr Wuthikorn. Among them, Peerayos Intarapol said they had not known Lyn products were harmful. The producer had claimed they contained only natural ingredients.
Mr Wuthikorn also said the company had not given refunds to sales agents despite the product being recalled. There were about 35,000 Lyn agents nationwide who had each invested from thousands to millions of baht buying products for resale, he said.
