KANCHANABURI: The brother of a woman in this western province who died after taking Lyn weight-loss pills says he will file a complaint with police as the family has experienced hardships after her death.
Wuthikorn Mon-ing, 30, brother of late Pimolwan Mon-in, 31, said Monday that he would file the complaint on Tuesday against the sale agent who sold the product to his sister and the producer of the pills. He also vowed to fight to the end.
Mr Wuthikorn said his family had found the death of his sister on March 28 suspicious and asked for an autopsy. The Institute of Forensic Medicine found she had suffered from sibutramine poisoning.
Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant. It is one of two banned substances found in Lyn products. The other is bisacodyl, a type of laxative. Ingestion of the substances can lead to a heart function disorder.
It was reported that Pimolwan took Lyn products for about a month.
Her grieving mother also died six days after her daughter's death, Mr Wuthikorn said.
According to him, he and his late sister are the breadwinners of the family, which also includes their younger sister, who are studying at a university, and their ill father, 60.
His late sister also had a nine-year-old son who mostly lived with the boy's father after their divorce, Mr Wuthikorn said.
Earlier, police said they would charge the distributor of weight loss products under the Lyn brand with premeditated murder after Pimolwan had died.
The Food and Drug Administration said it had not approved Lyn diet pills, which contained the two chemicals banned by the FDA in 2010.
