Lyle Waggoner death: Carol Burnett Show and Wonder Woman star dies aged 84

Lyle Waggoner, the actor best known for his roles on The Carol Burnett Show, has died aged 84.

The comedy star died peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning (17 March) surrounded by his family. He had been battling a short illness.

Sources close to the family revealed the news to TMZ.

Waggoner ‘s big break came in the mid-1960s when he starred in the TV show Gunsmoke.

He narrowly missed out on playing Batman in the famous TV series, losing out to Adam West.

In 1967, Waggoner began a seven-year stint on beloved comedy sketch and variety series The Carol Burnett Show.

He regularly appeared as the show’s announcer and played several characters in funny skits.

One year after leaving the show – in 1975 – Waggoner was cast as the pilot Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman series opposite Lynda Carter.

Later that decade, he founded Star Waggonas, which leases customised location trailers for people in the entertainment industry.

His other television credits include Charlie’s Angels, Happy Days and The Golden Girls.

Waggoner, who was born in Kansas City, was also a model and became the first seminude male centrefold in magazine Playgirl.
