Ride-hailing app Lyft is launching a monthly subscription plan nationwide that gives frequent users discounted rates.
The all-access pass costs $299 per month for 30 rides (up to $15 each). If a user's ride goes over $15, he or she pays the difference. Unused rides don't roll over.
The idea is to encourage users to ditch their own cars in favor of Lyft.
"This is the first step toward delivering on our goal of making car ownership optional, and we're constantly looking for more ways to provide passengers with the easiest, most convenient options possible," Lyft said in a statement.
Lyft tested out the idea for a Netflix-style monthly subscription plan earlier this year, but at a much lower price tag: $199 for 30 rides or $399 for 60 rides.
Lyft's ride-sharing rival Uber is also testing a monthly option called Ride Pass, which offers discounts on eligible rides by paying a one-time activation fee. The service is not available nationwide yet, however, and details and pricing vary.
