Lydia Wilson returns to Almeida Theatre to star in Rebecca Frecknall's Duchess of Malfi revival

Lydia Wilson will star in a new production of John Webster’s tragedy The Duchess of Malfi at the Almeida Theatre.

Wilson, who was nominated for an Olivier Award for her role as Kate Middleton in the Almeida’s much acclaimed King Charles III, will play the title role.

Directed by Rebecca Frecknall, the play will open in December telling a bloody story of revenge, as the recently widowed Duchess marries a man she loves and is punished for it by her corrupt brothers.

Frecknall, the Almeida’s associate director, has previously directed two plays at the theatre. Three Sisters ran in April and Summer and Smoke debuted last year, before transferring to the West End.

There will be design by Chloe Lamford, costumes by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting by Jack Knowles and sound by George Dennis. Further casting is yet to be announced.

The Duchess of Malfi will run at the Almeida Theatre from December 10-January 18, almeida.co.uk
