Luxury Merewether property sets record with $8 million-plus sale

A LUXURY property on one of Merewether's most coveted strips has sold for a huge price, setting a street record and also becoming the third biggest sale for a house in Newcastle.

3 Berner Street, Merewether has sold for a street record after eight days on the market with PRD Presence listing agent Natalie Tonks.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home at 3 Berner Street sold after eight days on the market with PRD Presence's Natalie Tonks.

"I'm feeling quite overwhelmed," Mrs Tonks told the Newcastle Herald shortly after the sale went through on Wednesday.

"Effectively it is the third highest sale for a house in both Merewether and Newcastle.

She took over the listing from another real estate agency in Newcastle after it failed to sell after almost four months on the market.

The sale price is undisclosed however, the property sold within its guide of $8 million to $8.8 million.

Both the sellers and the buyers requested to remain anonymous but the agent did reveal that the new owner is from Newcastle.

The record price for a residential property in Newcastle is $10.25 million paid for a house around the corner on John Parade in May last year.

A home at 44 Kilgour Avenue, Merewether holds the title as the second highest sale is $8.7 million which was also sold by Mrs Tonks in September 2021.

Designed in 2009 by EJE Architects and renovated in 2016, the house was last sold in September 2015 for $4,025,000.

The house is not the only high-priced property on the market in Merewether.
