Luxury Edinburgh hotel voted one of the UK's best at TripAdvisor awards
One of Edinburgh's most beautiful luxury hotels has been voted among the best in the UK at TripAdvisor's 20th annual Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards.
The latest community-powered ranking, which follows the earlier 2022 releases of the Best of the Best Destinations and Beaches, reveals the most-loved hotels around the world, with a Scarborough B&B being been named the best-rated B&B in the world for the second consecutive year.
Fellow Scots hotel the Ivybank Lodge in Blairgowie ranked second on the list and also placed 11th in the world, third in Europe and best in the UK in the Small Stays category.
Permanently stationed on the Leith waterfront, near the popular shore, Fingal opened as a luxury floating hotel in 2019. Among its admirers is The Queen, who stepped aboard for some dinner three years ago.
The boat was previously used a lighthouse tender, but is now a 23 cabin boutique hotel featuring a ballroom, grand staircase and remarkable restaurant called The Lighthouse Bar, which has a "vast floor to ceiling window, thick granite bar and shimmering ceiling".
Guests can choose between a luxury cabin, duplex or suite, with the latter setting you back £1,500 - spare change for the Royal Family. But for those priced out of an overnight stay, dinner at the highly-revered restaurant is often on the menu for many of Fingal's passengers.
The 2022 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards are based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings posted on Tripadvisor over the 12-month period from 1 January, 2021 through 31 December, 2021.
The awards include 11 subcategories of accommodations to reflect the tastes and needs of a broad range of travellers. This year there are three new ones to delve into: Out of the Ordinary, Hotels on the Water and Mountain Lodges & Resorts.
“We know that travel is not a one-size-fits-all approach, so the Travellers’ Choice Awards have you covered–no matter what type of trip you’re planning,” said Kanika Soni, Chief Commercial Officer, Tripadvisor.
“Winners for 2022 span six continents and 90 countries, ranging from cave hotels to overwater bungalows to castles and even family-owned B&Bs. Browse through these winners for a dose of wanderlust along with recommendations from the best guides in the world: other travellers.”
