Luxury cruise ship with 'films under the stars', casino and nightclub to dock in Liverpool

By Olivia Williams

A luxury cruise ship with a cinema, casino and nightclub is to dock in Liverpool.

The Emerald Princess is to arrive at Liverpool Cruise Terminal on Saturday, May 14 and is the height of luxury. The ship launched from the Italian shipyard Fincantieri Monfalcone on June 1, 2006. She was christened on May 13, 2007 in Greece.

Princess Emerald first began offering 12-day Mediterranean and Greek Isles cruises in 2007, however she was then re-positioned in Fort Lauderdale in autumn to sail through the Caribbean. It has 19 decks and 1,539 passenger cabins and 1,200 crew members.

On Saturday, May 14, the ship will be arriving in the city as part of her 12-day British Isles trip. The cruise ship will also stop in places such as Guernsey, Cork, Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Onboard guests can enjoy an array of activities including shops, art gallery's and auctions, a casino, theatre, pools and a nightclub. There is also a huge range of restaurants. Princess Cruises said: "Every hour, our chefs are busy baking, grilling and sautéing great-tasting fare from scratch.

"Princess offers unparalleled inclusive dining options throughout the ship with a wide range of culinary delights to suit any palate, from endless buffet choice to gourmet pizza, frosty treats, decadent desserts and much more."

People will never get board on the ship either as there will "movies under the stars", music and dancing, "festivals of the world" and cocktail nights. There is also entertainment for children from ages three up to teenage age.

On this year's cruise season John Mawer, head of Cruise Operations at Cruise Liverpool, said: “We are looking forward to marking the 15th birthday of Liverpool’s Cruise Terminal later this year, and what better way to do it than ensuring record ships and passengers visiting our shores and enjoying the famous Liverpool welcome.

"We also want 2022 to be the year when we make progress in reducing the environmental impact of the ships on the city, there’s a long way to go but talks are already underway and I’m excited to be a part of the conversation on behalf of Liverpool."

Trips on the Emerald Princess start at £569 per person and you can find out more information here.
