The Tokyo Motor Fes 2018, in which domestic and overseas car manufacturers participate, kicked off in Tokyo's Odaiba district on Saturday.
The event is the last one in Heisei era, which will end on April 30, 2019. Cars displayed at the event had distinctive features from the bubble economy period in the 1980s and '1990s, which attracted many people.
About 30 cars, which were sold during the period, were shown at the venue. They included Toyota Motor Corp.'s Celsior and Honda Motor Co.'s Prelude. Celsior opened a new door to the history of luxury sedans in Japan. Meanwhile, the Prelude started a trend of "cars for dating."
Talks were also held between Akio Toyoda, chairman of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association and president of Toyota, and Masayoshi Son, chairman and chief executive officer of SoftBank Group Corp. One of the topics discussed was the tie-up between Toyota and SoftBank for next generation mobility services.
The event will be held through Monday.
